What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are thin shells that are cemented over your existing teeth to improve aesthetics. The veneer only covers the front surface of a tooth, unlike a crown that covers an entire tooth all the way around. Usually, a small amount of enamel has to be removed to prepare for the veneer. In some cases, no enamel is lost; these are known as “Prepless Veneers.” Both are made of porcelain and reflect light to have a natural translucency while being resistant to stains. These thin shells are used to correct chipped, misaligned, misshapen, discolored, worn down, stained, gapped, or slightly overlapping teeth. Maintaining Your Veneers
You care for veneers just as you would your natural teeth, with brushing and flossing, regular check-ups, and cleanings. In order to protect your investment, use special care to avoid biting into hard, crunchy, or sticky foods. We strongly recommend a nighttime bite guard to avoid unnecessary damage and protect your veneers, particularly if you suffer from bruxism (teeth grinding). Although veneers are fairly durable, you may choose to have them replaced within a lifetime.
