What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are thin porcelain shells that are cemented overtop of your existing teeth to improve aesthetics. Usually, a small amount of enamel has to be removed to prepare for the veneer. In some cases no enamel is lost; these are known as "Prepless Veneers". Both are made of porcelain and reflect light to have a natural translucency while being resistant to stains. These thin shells are used to correct chipped, misaligned, misshapen, discolored, worn down, stained, gapped, or slightly overlapping teeth. They give you that beautiful "Hollywood Smile" and can take years off your appearance by giving you white, evenly spaced and shaped teeth that don’t stain. They are even known as a "Scalpelless Facelift" and are a wonderful, relatively easy, solution to give you a beautiful, youthful smile with no downtime or bruising!
Porcelain Veneer Consultation
Dr. Walmsley would be glad to sit down with you to discuss if you are a good candidate for Porcelain Veneers. At that time you are even encouraged to bring in pictures of smiles you like! With your input, Dr. Walmsley works with you to tailor a custom smile with the size, shape, and color of your teeth. This design process is an art, specially created to best enhance your individual facial features. If you choose to go forward, an exact replica, or wax-up, of the custom designed smile can be fabricated to allow you to “try on” your new smile without altering your teeth to make sure you are completely happy with all aspects of it! This no pressure, no obligation consultation is free of charge, to discuss if you are a candidate for a Smile Makeover using Veneers.
Because some tooth structure is usually lost to make room for the veneer, it is considered an irreversible procedure. For that reason, if you are considering veneers we strongly encourage you to “interview” the doctor you are considering. Some questions to ask: How many Smile Makeovers have they performed? Do they have actual before and after photos that are similar in nature to your case? How much specialized training have they received in Cosmetic Dentistry? Will they be using a lab that specializes in Cosmetic cases or do they use a lab that does their everyday cases?
We are happy to share with you that Dr. Walmsley has done countless Smile Makeovers using labs that specialize in Cosmetic Dental cases. He has taken hundreds of hours of advanced training in both Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry and he is happy to share actual before and after photos of work that he has personally performed (versus purchased stock photos that many dentists use to advertise). Training, technology, labs and experience all make a difference in your end result. Call us today to schedule a complimentary consultation to begin discovering how you can achieve the beautiful smile you’ve always desired!
Maintaining Your Veneers
You care for veneers just as you would your natural teeth, with brushing and flossing, regular check-ups and cleanings. In order to protect your investment, use special care to avoid biting into hard, crunchy, or sticky foods. We strongly recommend a nighttime bite guard to avoid unnecessary damage and protect your veneers, particularly if you suffer from bruxism (teeth grinding). Although veneers are fairly durable, you may choose to have them replaced within a lifetime.
