3D CBCT Scanner
Dr. Walmsley enjoys staying abreast of the latest technology and has chosen to invest in a 3D CBCT scanner. This technology allows him to detect abnormalities that can’t even be found on typical digital x-rays. Similar to a CT you would get in a hospital setting, but only for the sinus and jaw area, this technology allows him to view both externally and internally within structures of the face and jaw, from all angles, to see problematic areas that might otherwise be missed. This technology is indispensable when it comes to diagnostics and treatment planning.
Digital X-rays
At LakeView Dental Arts, we have digital x-rays to have clear, concise images ready instantly to read with minimal exposure to radiation. Regular dental x-rays are a primary tool for easy and early identification of dental problems. Detecting issues with x-rays before they are bigger and more expensive is always beneficial to our patients. This early detection can help prevent the need for more extensive, expensive procedures or surgeries.
X-rays are primarily used to detect:
- Internal tooth decay
- Cysts (fluid-filled sacs at the base of your teeth)
- Tumors, both cancerous and non-cancerous
- Impacted teeth
- Teeth that are still coming in
- Cavities between teeth
- Infections in the bone
- Bone loss
The use of digital x-rays has several advantages over traditional film-based x-rays. Digital x-rays allow us to take x-rays with 1/5 of the radiation that you would receive from traditional dental x-rays. The worry of exposure to excess radiation is eliminated.
Large on-screen x-rays make patient communication more effective. The immediate observation of the images on the screen allows us to discuss your dental health quickly and accurately.
Digital radiography has greatly enhanced the practice of dentistry. It allows the patient and the doctor to see images of the teeth in higher resolution on a large format for easier detection of problems, all while decreasing the radiation exposure to the patient. The process we use further defines the radiograph, resulting in clinically meaningful images that are sharp, detailed, and rich in contrast.
Images are available instantly after exposure, eliminating the wait and effort spent developing and mounting x-rays. If an image needs to be retaken, it can be done immediately. Digital format also allows us to send and receive your images electronically, allowing for a faster consultation with other specialists if needed.
Computer Assisted Anesthesia
Your comfort is one of our top concerns! We offer Computer Assisted Anesthesia for most injections. This system allows Dr. Walmsley to deliver virtually pain-free injections that are barely noticeable. In fact, many patients comment that they can not tell they’ve had an injection at all. This alleviates one of the greatest concerns some people have at a dental office.
Cerec CAD-Cam
Your convenience is a priority for us! That is why we have invested in a Cerec milling unit. Cerec is a state-of-the-art dental CAD-Cam that allows us to design and mill many dental restorations in our office while you wait! Many times, this allows us to deliver a crown the same day it is prepped, which saves you from wearing a temporary crown and eliminates additional visits to our office to complete your treatment.
Digital Scanner
Dr. Walmsley has the latest in digital scanners that are used with the Cerec CAD-Cam. This small camera wand eliminates many of the “old school” goopy impressions that we all dislike. It also allows for more accurate margins for restorations.
Soft Tissue Diode Laser
Here at LakeView Dental Arts, we use a soft tissue diode laser to painlessly remove excess gum tissue and recontour gums and soft tissue. This technology is the perfect solution to a “gummy smile.”
CariesView Cavity Detection
At LakeView Dental Arts, we know it is always better to take care of dental issues early on before they grow into bigger problems. We use CariesView technology to see decay under amalgam fillings and between teeth. These areas of decay are frequently missed even with x-rays until they are larger.
MoleKule Air Purifiers
Because the health of our patients and staff is an utmost concern to us, we have chosen to invest in Molekule air purifiers to remove and kill airborne virus particles. While no system is absolute, and no air purifier can prevent you from getting a virus, we have specifically chosen this technology because of its efficacy in cleaning, filtering, and destroying VOCs, bacteria, and virus particles. Its PECO technology destroys pollutants on a microscopic scale, including viruses 1000x smaller than the HEPA filter, which includes RNA virus MS2. These units are placed in each working dental operatory as well as strategically throughout the office.
Intraoral Camera
X-rays give us a clear view of what we can’t see, such as decay between the teeth. An intraoral camera gives the patient a view of what the dentist sees. An intraoral camera is a device that is about the size of a toothbrush. It takes magnified pictures in your mouth so that you are able to see exactly what Dr. Walmsley sees. Broken fillings, cracks, broken teeth, decay, and other dental problems can be easily viewed by the patient so that we can discuss with you any treatment needed. With a clear understanding of your dental needs, we can decide together what the best treatment is for you. These intraoral pictures are also used to effectively communicate with insurance companies why you need treatment. Images from this scanner provide proof of your dental need.
Ultrasonic Scalers
We use ultrasonic scalers for some adult dental cleanings. These devices use ultrasonic vibrations to help break down the plaque and calculus on the teeth that cause gingivitis and periodontal disease. The ultrasonic cleaners create microscopic bubbles that implode on the surface of the tooth, killing microbes and removing plaque and tartar in the process. Our instruments use a thin tip to better navigate in the periodontal pockets to help maintain optimal gingival health.
The procedure uses water and/or an antimicrobial liquid called chlorhexidine. It can remove tartar buildup in hard-to-reach areas with no damage to the tooth enamel. Manual scaling often uses pressure for cleaning, while the vibration produced by the scaling tip of an ultrasonic scaler is barely perceptible. This makes ultrasonic cleaning suitable for those with sensitive teeth or those with a heavy calculus buildup. The cleaning process is faster than manual scaling, making your visit more comfortable if you tend to build a lot of tartar.
After your teeth have been cleaned with the ultrasonic scaler, your teeth will be hand scaled to check for any residual deposits and then polished and flossed.
